Soaringwords was started by Lisa Honig Buksbaum after three experiences with death and illness in her family. Within a ten-month period, her only sibling died suddenly, her dad had his second bout of cancer and was hospitalized for several months, and her oldest child was catastrophically ill. Today, her son is fully recovered. Today, Soaringwords is a vibrant not-for-profit organization with a mission to inspire children, families, adults, seniors, and health care professionals to take active roles in self-healing to experience great physical, emotional, and mental well-being.
Our Mission

Soaringwords’ interventions have been shared with more than 500,000 individuals. The SOARING Into Positive Wellbeing Model has been presented at 16 international scientific conferences and featured in leading media including ABC News, Fortune Small Business, and USA Today.
Soaringwords was founded in 2000 to inspire hospitalized children, their families, and their health care providers to take active roles in self-healing. In 2019, the nonprofit pivoted and now provides programs which benefit adult individuals, companies, educational institutes, and health care systems through the SOARING Into Positive Wellbeing Initiative.
SOARING Into Positive Wellbeing Model
Our goal is impact—the greatest impact possible. To that end, we’ve developed a number of powerful programs based on our SOARING Into Positive Wellbeing Model. After inspiring thousands of children to take active roles in their own healing since 2000, Soaringwords’ unique approach was codified in 2013 as a new scientific model which has been tested among hundreds of patients in the U.S. Since then, a new study expanded to assess the impact among thousands of additional patients.
In the SOARING Into Positive Wellbeing workshops, shifts in participant wellbeing are measured through surveys based on the SOARING Into Positive Wellbeing Model, which consists of seven foundational Positive Psychology principles:
How Soaringwords was born
CEO & Founder Lisa Honig Buksbaum was inspired to create Soaringwords after three experiences with death and illness occurred in her family within a ten-month period. Her brother died of an asthma-induced heart attack, her father had his second bout of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, and her son was ill with rheumatic fever.
While walking along the beach during the height of her son’s illness, Lisa had a calling to launch Soaringwords to inspire millions of people to take active roles in their self-healing.
Lisa’s father lived for another 19 years and her son healed from rheumatic fever, but those experiences motivated her to provide others with the resources that she had needed to get through those incredibly challenging times. Since then, Soaringwords has inspired more than 500,000 children, families, adults, seniors, and health care professionals to “Never give up!”
